Megiddo

Chapter One: “Concerned Citizens”

“To Who It May Concern,
If you are reading this, then we have decided that you are capable of assisting us in dealing with the paranormal occurrences that have recently been plaguing this country and possibly the rest of the world. We believe that an Abbis known as Gale Onarav may have something to do with this, as he disappeared shortly before what people are calling “Megiddo” started. If you are interested in helping us discover what has caused Megiddo an how to stop it before it gets any worse, be at the volcano in the Triale Wastelands tomorrow at noon.
-Concerned Citizens.”

It was the original copy of the letter Jekin had sent out but a day ago, the day her and her brother’s investigation of the event known as “Megiddo” led them here. Their old home, Obersin. She hated it here. There were so many horrible memories that she struggled to suppress. This is where she witnessed her parents slaughtered as they tried to lead her and her brother to safety, and where Jekin lost his right eye when they barely escaped. He had to hate it here too, but he was stronger then her. He wouldn’t show how he really felt. She sat on a rock and placed her weapons beside it. The twins often relied on modern weaponry, but her sickle, the weapon her mentors taught her to use, was always close by. She let out a sigh and looked at her brother. “It’s getting late, think anyone will come?”

Jekin shrugged, as was his typical response to everything. “Gale had a lot of enemies, I’m sure someone will be here.”

“I know that, but I hate it here. I want to leave as soon as possible.”

Jekin crossed his arms, his face grim. “If we’re lucky, we can stop Gale while he’s still here.”

Lara raised an eyebrow. “You mean he’s actually here? He hasn’t been seen since last month at Tri-Link’s Café.”

Jekin nodded before deciding to check his weapons. “Someone in Merylyan spotted him heading toward the Triale Wastelands, which leads me to believe he’s here.”

Lara sighed again and leaned back to look up at the volcano in which Obersin was hid. “Home sweet home, right…”

Re: Megiddo

One was in a valley far away training hard. It was all he did since he left Tri-Link's Cafe three months ago, only taking small breaks to rest and nourish himself. He felt he had gotten significantly stronger. One stopped for a second and took the letter out from his pocket. He opened the piece of parchment and remembered how it was yesterday when he got it. He knew almost instantly it was Lara and Jekin, and he had no intention of going to the Triale Wastelands among the other people, he just wanted to meet up with them first. He was happy that someone else noticed the problems that Gale was going through. He put the letter back in his pocket and began to walk in the direction of Obersin.

Re: Megiddo

A crisp and chilly morning greeted Vincent, the adolescent theif bundled up in whatever layers he could scrounge up to try and protect his coveted body heat. His only concern as of now was where he was going to get some sort of meal for the day- and it came to mind that perhaps he could find something to trade in the garbage. People threw away the most interesting things, occasionally...

It is with this idea in mind, finding something of some worth in a stranger's garbage can, that Vincent comes across a crumpled up letter with a strange seal on it- broken already. Something drives him to slip the now-ragged message from the confines of the torn envelope, and quickly read what it contains.

“To Who It May Concern,
If you are reading this, then we have decided that you are capable of assisting us in dealing with the paranormal occurrences..." This is enough to irrevocably hook his attention. After meticulously picking through the remaining lines of lettering, the child shreds the message and deposits it in the garbage once more.

"Triale Wastelands... Maybe there's a reward..."

Ayn 04-24-2004 01:46 PM

Re: Megiddo

A sort of mocking laughter is heard from behind Lara and Jekin. "So.. it took you almost four thousand years to figure out what I've known my entire life?"

She's standing a few feet away from them her hands jammed in her pockets. Her sword, although considerably plain, has been re-sharpened, and beams of light from the sun reflect off it towards her face, which is smirking. Her long, golden hair is pulled back into a ponytail which reaches down her lower back.

She removes a hand from her pocket, a slightly crumpled letter in her fist.

Gale 04-24-2004 01:49 PM

Re: Megiddo

Lara blinks and looks at Ayn, then at Jekin. "You invited HER? If she dies we're all screwed!"

Jekin nods to Ayn and turns to his sister. "She can hold her own, I wouldn't worry about her getting killed." He turns back to Ayn. "I apologize for my sister's rudeness, we hold no ill will toward you."

Ayn 04-24-2004 02:00 PM

Re: Megiddo

Her eyebrow arches. "No ill will indeed, however, it seems you have a lack of faith in Mother Earth... The very ground you're standing on." She steps forward, her foot landing on a water-starved insect. The exoskeleton is smashed with a brief, yet loud crunch.

Gale 04-24-2004 02:04 PM

Re: Megiddo

Lara crosses her arms. "Mother Earth or not, you are still a child. Tread carefully, for you have yet to see how great our magic is, especially when used for ill-purposes. But that's why you're here, no? To stop that from happening?"

Ayn 04-24-2004 02:14 PM

Re: Megiddo

"I would be a child only if I were an Abbis." She grins. "I'm not one of you. My people are adults by the time they're 20."

She doesn't bother to answer Lara's question. Whether what she had said was true or not, by habit Ayn has learned to keep her motives to herself. It'd be too easy for an enemy to find a fatal flaw in it if she didn't.

Gale 04-24-2004 02:34 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin finishes checking his guns and sets them down. "We don't know for sure Gale has anything to do with this, we're just going to question him."

Lara snorts. "He's always been a trouble maker."

Jekin shrugs. "Still no need to jump the gun."

Re: Megiddo

A short swift breaze passes through the vacinity of the three standing within, the breaze seaming to be coming from one general direction, where a single cloaked figure comes walking forth from the horizen. His skin is tanned, the heat from Hell's rath still making his skin albit sore, the fact of whereing anything more than his normal clothes held to much weight upon his body, however, he wore his normal battle clothes that he ususally wore before the trials. The figure, as he walks, looks down to the small peice of parchment that he took out of his pocket, the letter written upon it. It sounded bad, he knew, but he realy didn't care. He had no real reason to answer this calling, however, he decided to go anyways, anythings better than sitting around doing nothing. he placed the parchment back into his pocket, and came ever closer. As he walked the wind wipped the cloak around his body feriously, however, he paid no mind, he controleld the wind, it did as he willed it to do. it was pretty much seconed nature now, the winds change being becouse he willed it, it wasn't anything big really, just something eh could do. The Wind sword of courage lay strapped to his abck, however, he had little want to use it, nor the armor it could matrialize. It was too much for him to handle, to tell the truth, and he didn't feal like fighting with the magic to keap control. The figure looekd back up, and found that, as he was walking, he had come to about 20 feat away from the others. he looks at the two twins, not knowing them at all by sight, then his gaze shifts to Ayn where he shakes his head slightly.

I guess you still have some grudge against Gale eh?

Ayn 04-24-2004 02:43 PM

Re: Megiddo

Ayn turns to face him. "A 'grudge' is the last thing I would call it. 'Loathing' would suit my feelings more accurately." Feeling parched, she reaches into one of her handbags and pulls out a cantine. She tilts her head back, letting the water slide down the back of her throat.

The Zelda Master 04-24-2004 02:47 PM

Re: Megiddo

eyes show some slight amusment by this, but make no motion as if it did.

"Well, you may get the chance to expell some of that loathing, if all works. "

Gaze shifts from Ayn to the twins.

so, whyd di you send me this?

Gale 04-24-2004 02:47 PM

Re: Megiddo

Lara puts her hands on her hips. "The famous TZM. Nice to meet you. My name is Lara, and the quiet one over there is Jekin. We sent you, and the others, the letter because you are best capable of helping our investigation."

Ayn 04-24-2004 02:58 PM

Re: Megiddo

"Investigation? What is it you're investigating, besides the obvious?" Ayn really had no intent of angering the twins, but she felt, if she wasn't always on guard she'd probably suffer some horrible fate at the hands of whoever was there. It was paranoia, really.

Gale 04-24-2004 03:01 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin places his weapons in their holsters and walked over. "The event people are calling Megiddo, is what we want to know about. Gale is just a suspect."

Wolf 04-24-2004 03:14 PM

Re: Megiddo

A small dot appears in the sky above. Over the space of a couple minutes, the dot grows and grows. Rikali the dragon, once called Blueflare, and Riki the demon girl land on the ground. Riki jumps off the dragon's back as the dragon, looking throughly exhausted, collaspes on the ground and breathes heavily. The girl speaks for both of them.

"Is this where we are supposed to be to...investigate?" Riki looks around, interested, while the dragon eyes Ayn with half-closed eyes.

Fury Three 04-24-2004 03:16 PM

Re: Megiddo

"This had better be good, you two..." Volcanic gravel crunched underfoot as Fury Three slowly approached the twins, both hands pocketed. Over his right shoulder hung his custom made assault rifle. His face was nearly expressionless, save for the serious look in his eyes. Whatever this was all about, it involved Gale, which was all that needed to be said. He was not happy to be here.

Da_#1_Link 04-24-2004 03:25 PM

Re: Megiddo

One sees the outline of a volcano a bit off in the horizon. "Good to be home, I guess." He finally makes it to the town of Triale and before heading into the Wastelands, he explores the Marketplace, after all, he walked all morning in the hot sun, he needed to rest. He haggled with the merchants for some fruit and bread. When he was done, he made his way towards the Wastelands

((Fury, about time you ****ing post. I saw it said you started posting around 2:18 or so. When I get the chance, I'm punching you in the eye. =P))

Gale 04-24-2004 03:25 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin looks at Rikali, Riki and Fury. "It seems there's enough here to begin..." Jekin sits down and is soon followed by Lara. "We're here to investigate the phenomina know as "Megiddo" and our first suspect happens to be in there." He motions to the volcano. "Obersin, the anceint city of the Abbis."

Wolf 04-24-2004 03:35 PM

Re: Megiddo

"What a lovely place to have a city." The dragon's voice is raspy, and as she raises her head, all can see the mass of ugly scars around her neck-souveniers from her battle with Sadik. Rikali stares in the direction of the ancient city. Riki looks around. "This is it? These are the only ones you could find?"

Gale 04-24-2004 03:41 PM

Re: Megiddo

Lara scoffs. "Hardly, but if we wait to long, are suspect might leave without us. Which would set us back quite a bit."

Jekin rises again. "Please follow me, I shall show you the entrance to Obersin." Jekin starts to walk up-slope, soon followed by Lara.

Ayn 04-24-2004 03:45 PM

Re: Megiddo

Ayn doesn't acknowledge the others, instead she turns and walks up the steep slope, lost in her own thoughts.

Wolf 04-24-2004 03:48 PM

Re: Megiddo

Dragon and girl follow after Ayn. The two, once enemies, now walk side-by-side.

Gale 04-24-2004 04:04 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin comes to what appears to have once been a gate. Abbissian symbols are carved into it, but the gate itself seems to have been ripped off. Jekin begins to walk into a dark tunnel that is only illuminated by strange, cracked orbs the line the passage way.

Wolf 04-24-2004 04:11 PM

Re: Megiddo

The dragon steps forward, next to Jekin. She walks next to him in silence for a moment. When she speaks, her voice echoes off the tunnel walls. "What is the story of the city?"

Gale 04-24-2004 04:17 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin is silent. He obviously isn't fond of the subject. "It was destroyed."

Wolf 04-24-2004 04:20 PM

Re: Megiddo

((nice spell job, Gale.))

"Obviously enough..." Catching the hint, the dragon reassumes her studious study of the ancient walls as she falls behind to walk next to Riki. Riki is staring at Ayn's back, intrigued. She looks at the dragon and shrugs. Weird occurances have been happening more and more in the last month.

Gale 04-24-2004 04:25 PM

Re: Megiddo

((I blame the ****ty English rules of grammar. Everything has an exception -_-; ))

Jekin stops when he reaches the end of the passage and enters what use to be the city. Very few buildings remain, most reduced to nothing but rubble. The sunlight from the opening in the crater of the volcano allows the entire city to be seen, as well as the ancient bones that layed across the streets of the city. Both Lara and Jekin found the scene depressing. Some of those bones belonged to their loved ones.

Ayn 04-24-2004 04:29 PM

Re: Megiddo

Ayn's face twists into a frown, and she steps forward, staring at the rubble. "It.. It's just like Blythandor..." She turns around to look at Lara and Jekin, bearing a similar expression of depression.

Wolf 04-24-2004 04:30 PM

Re: Megiddo

"What a lovely city...we should vacation sometime here, Rikali." Riki stands next to Lara, noting her look. "From the look on your face I'm guessing you used to live here. Before it was all destroyed. So what would a city like this hold for our investigation that you would not already know?"

Fury Three 04-24-2004 04:31 PM

Re: Megiddo

"I guess it isn't so lively here nowadays." Fury unslung his rifle and readied it anyway. If there was anything here except who they were looking for, it probably wasn't very nice. Not that the person they were looking for was any better.

ReyKas 04-24-2004 04:36 PM

Re: Megiddo

Wessen Slade sees the others moving foreward as he is just arriving. He allows them to move foreward a bit for him to trail unnoticed, perhaps to give himself a chance to be disillusioned. He takes from his jacket pocket a peice of parchment with the name Rey'Kas on the outside and a message of invite to this little adventure on the inside. He looks at the name written on it again before placing it back in his inside coat pocket. Wesson had convinced himself that he stole the letter and came in Kas's place in hopes of an opportunity for profit.. but he was having trouble justifying that to himself. And yet, here he was. And after seeing the treacherous-looking tunnel, he still had no inclination to turn back. He was here for some reason, he just didn't know what.

Good evening, ladies and chaps.

Wessen finally steps foreward and into the light of the orbs, reavealing himself to the rest of the company.

You may think I wasn't invited to this shindig, but my presence here seems to speak else-wise. I reckon a little extra help isn't an intrusion?

Leon 04-24-2004 04:36 PM

Re: Megiddo

Out further into the city where more ash and degrated objects are found stands a very shady man with a demonic looking weapon sheathed onto his backside. He seemed to be looking at the carvings and writing on pieces of cement buried under a bunch of ash."Hmm....nothing here or to my use anyhow".

Gale 04-24-2004 04:37 PM

Re: Megiddo

Lara crosses her arms and looks at the ground. "After the Angel's scorched the land they're General returned and stopped further attack on the Abbis. Unfortunately, there were only about a dozen of us alive then. That's why there's still ruins here, and why we came. The Angels through any records of magic that was too great intot he magma chamber, but records they figured were to vaque or damaged to be of much use they let stay. Unfortunately, most of it can be placed together with other information. I remember when I was a little girl we were taught of a type of magic that was so strong it would cause the seasons to lose balance, but worse things are to come. I hope that I'm mistaken"

Jekin cocks his sidearm. "We should thin out, I don't think he's left yet..." He turns to Wessen and raises and eyebrow. "I do not know you."

ReyKas 04-24-2004 04:42 PM

Re: Megiddo

That's alright. Consider me your alongside-strong for the moment. I protect the folks I'm with and I'm not back-stabber. Though if I was, I guess you wouldn't be wanting to take my word for it. Come to think of it, you'd best keep your eye on me.

Wessen draws his pistol and powers up the bullet-prollant.

Lead the way, Cap.

Wolf 04-24-2004 04:45 PM

Re: Megiddo

Riki stares at Wessen, then shrugs. Another wierd occurance.

ReyKas 04-24-2004 04:47 PM

Imagines strange occurances will be the theme of the day.

Ayn 04-24-2004 04:52 PM

Re: Megiddo

Ayn remains silent, her eyes in a fixed gaze somewhere off in the city. It had been nearly three thousand years since the city and its people drew their last breaths, but the area still rank of death.. In fact, it smelled rather fresh.

She wrinkles her nose and kneels down to examine a pile of rubble. The rocks had settled and eroded over the millenia, leaving nothing but a small pile. One small, bony hand juts out of the rubble, and upon notice of it, she backs away.

Gale 04-24-2004 04:52 PM

Re: Megiddo

Jekin chuckles. "I like you, welcome to our make-shift team." He motions to the whole group. "Now we're going to split up, if you find Gale shout and we'll meet you. However, he's a backstabbing bastard if I ever knew one. Don't turn your back on him."

It was now Lara's turn to laugh. "Was that all he is?"

Jekin frowns. "This isn't the time to screw around."

Lara smiles. "Fed-Ex, dear brother. Rememer Fed-Ex.((See Kingdom Of Pasadga to understand that :P))" Lara skips off, not caring who follows her.

ReyKas 04-24-2004 04:55 PM

Re: Megiddo

Wessen raises his eyebrow and points his pistol at the undead hand.

The hell?

After a moment, Wesson realizes with a wave of embarassment that it's just a corpse burried beneath the rubble.

Location, location, location. I think I'll set myself up a lodge hereabouts.

Nods to Jekin

Like I said, lead the way. Since you and I are getting along so well already, I'll stick with you.
